Life before Solve Mortgages
I began my career in the financial sector with Brewin Dolphin Stockbrokers right after finishing college. I joined their discretionary management team and became a Registered Representative at 19. After gaining valuable experience, I expanded my horizons by embarking on a global adventure, exploring new cultures and opportunities.
When I returned to the UK, I shifted my focus and spent several years working in various roles within the logistics sector. However, in 2021, after receiving a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, I made a pivotal decision to return to the financial services industry. This decision, driven by renewed passion and determination, allowed me to focus on making a meaningful impact within the mortgage industry.
Outside of Solve Mortgages
Sports have always been a big part of my life. I played football, cricket, and skied during my younger years, but unfortunately, multiple knee injuries forced me to step away from those activities.
I then turned to cycling as a new way to stay fit and active. It’s become a central part of my routine, and I also participate in events, using my journey of overcoming Leukaemia to inspire others along the way.
In the summer, I love watching my son play cricket at various grounds across the country. He’s a talented junior representative player for Yorkshire, and it’s a joy to see him develop his skills and passion for the game.
How it all started
Solve Mortgages began as a story of resilience and determination. In March 2021, Moray faced a life-changing challenge when doctors diagnosed him with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
During his second day in the hospital, isolated and with little to do beyond watching Netflix, Moray reflected on his future. At first, he thought about pursuing a university degree. However, the thought of committing to a five-year part-time course felt overwhelming. He then turned to his past experiences for inspiration.
A pivotal memory stood out: a frustrating encounter with a mortgage broker during the 2020 lockdown. This dissatisfaction sparked an idea. Moray realised he could use his background in Financial Services to offer better customer service and more insightful advice than he had received.
With newfound clarity, Moray decided to return to the Financial Services industry. He brought extensive experience and a renewed sense of purpose. His goal was to redefine the mortgage brokerage experience and lay the foundation for Solve Mortgages.
This venture is more than just a business. It’s a personal mission to turn adversity into an opportunity to positively impact others on their financial journeys.
